Wonderful pictures by David Galchutt
David Galchutt is an American artist born in Southern California. His parents met at art school in Los Angeles. His father’s career was graphic design and his mother studied costume design.
Already in his childhood David decided to become an artist. One day in kindergarten children were asked to draw a tree and only David’s tree had branches and a bird’s nest. And the little boy realized that art might be the path he should take.
In 1981 he graduated from Art Center College of Design.
The artist has worked in many areas of illustration.
David worked at a small toy design studio. For many years he was a “personal stylist” for the famous Barbie doll. In 1993 he wrote and illustrated a children’s book, There Was Magic Inside, which was published by Simon and Schuster. Now he works as a giftware designer and does freelance children’s illustration (mainly for Highlights Magazine). He also has an online Etsy store.
For over 20 years Gulchutt had been working in watercolor and then switched to oils. He prefers oils to watercolor because of the wide range of color. The artist works in a pretty traditional manner. He finds inspiration in many things – an unusual color combination, nature, fine art, medieval art and sculpture, architecture. David is fond of historical costume and you can see it in his works.
The artist wants to move away from the noise and distractions. He would prefer a peaceful, tranquil environment where he could concentrate more on his work.
