Paolo Curcio is an Italian sculptor based in Spain. He is also known as mrthe77. Paolo transforms old coins from ordinary to extraordinary.
He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sculpture. Since 2003 Paolo has worked as a Jeweler. In 2011 his passion for artistic metalworking led him to discover the Art of Hand Engraving.
Buffalo nickel is an American five-cent coin which was minted from 1913 to 1938. It was made of soft metal and decorated with the image of an Indian’s head in traditional headdress which could be transformed into the portrait of another person, image of an animal or even landscape. The coins were nicknamed Hobo Nickels, most likely because a large number of unemployed artists during the Great Depression enthusiastically made a huge variety of coins. And of course numismatists all around the world have them in their collections.
