Aye-aye – amazing living thing

Aye-aye (Daubentonia madagascariensis) is an unusual-looking animal. It is a member of a group of primitive primates known as Prosimians, most of which are lemurs. This animal is the only surviving member of the family Daubentoniidae. When it was first encountered by Europeans, it was incorrectly classified as a rodent.
It is covered with a coat of coarse blackish-brown hair. The animal has very large, sensitive ears, sharp, rodent-like teeth and long, claw-like fingers and toes. Aye-aye is 38 to 46 centimeters long and has a bushy tail measures 41 to 56 centimeters long. The animal weighs between 2 and 3 kilograms. Its diet consists of fruit (especially coconuts), wood-boring insect larvae, bamboo shoots, sugarcane, and some small animals. The aye-aye’s large ears allow it to hear insect larvae moving beneath the bark of trees.

Walrus – Whale Horse

Walrus lives in the cold Arctic seas of Europe, Asia, and North America. Its name is an English version of the Scandinavian word hvalros, meaning “whale horse.” This animal has a stocky body topped by a rounded head. It has small piggy eyes and its mouth is covered with stiff whiskers. Every year, the walrus grows a new set of whiskers. All walruses have long tusks, which they use to fight, cut holes in ice, and pull itself out of water. These animals spend nearly whole life at sea and climb onto ice or rocky islands to rest and to have babies. The walruses swim with the help of flippers and also use them to walk. Their swimming speed is approximately 10 km/h. A thick layer of fat below the skin, called blubber, keeps the walrus warm.
They feed on fish, clams and sometimes young seals. They dig clams from the seafloor with their tusks. They shovel food into the mouth with their whiskers. The walrus usually does not chew its prey, but swallows it whole. Walruses sometimes also capture and eat sea birds.

There are more than 14 species of animals.
These animals were named aardvarks by South Africans in the early 1800s. In the local language, Afrikaans, “aardvark” means “earth pig.” The scientific name of the aardvark is Orycteropus afer.

There are no immortal animal
We are born to die.
However, we know that in fact the bacteria never die, unless, of course, they do not become prey or the victims of an accident. Nobody has seen bacterium died of old age. But all of this is hypothetical.
A creature that can truly be called immortal has been recently discovered. This is jellyfish Turritopsis nutricula, inhabiting tropical seas. It is 4-5 millimeters.
Living beings undergo several cycles from birth to death. Usually after reproduction a particular body loses the meaning of its biological existence and dies. But this jellyfish after reproduction process begins to return to its earlier stage of development. From mature individuals they again turn into cubs and repeat the cycle an infinite number of times.

Misconceptions about fish

The fish first came on land
According to the history of the evolution in the biology textbook fish first came to the land. They have somehow learned to breathe atmospheric air and rushed to conquer the expanse of land. Then frogs and reptiles appeared.
But in fact, the insects were pioneers. The first insects came out on the land, were like a scorpion with a shell on the back.

Sharks are the oldest fish
Sharks appeared about 300 million years ago, before the dinosaurs, and had survived them. Of course, they looked quite different. But now there is a fish that is much older than sharks. For a long time, scientists believed that it died out 75 million years ago. This is Latimeria chalumnae, a possible ancestor of the first amphibians, lived 360 million years ago. Throughout its existence, it has not changed much. It currently lives at a depth of about 100 meters near the coast of Africa and Indonesia. Its skull is not monolithic, but consists of two parts connected by special joint. The spine is not solid and is not divided into the vertebrae, it is an elastic tube.

Parrots do not understand what they say
Many people think that parrots simply reproduce sounds and human speech. In fact it is not true. Those who keep these beautiful birds at home have noticed that sometimes the words spoken by their pets quite accurately correspond to the situation.
Research gave surprising results: African Grey parrot named Alex not only repeats the sounds of human speech, but it uses speech as a tool for communication. His vocabulary consists of over 300 words; he knows how to count to 6, distinguishes color, shape and material.
