Bright handsome ash
Ash is a tall to very tall tree usually 20–40 m in height, occasionally up to 90 m, with stem diameters of 2–3 m. The trees usually have straight stems with medium-sized crowns. Several types of ash tree are valued for their hardwood or their beauty. There are about 70 different species, or types, of ash tree. They are members of the same scientific family as olive trees, jasmines, and lilacs. Most ash trees grow in the northern half of the world. They usually need plenty of sunshine. Most ashes have a strong, straight trunk with gray bark. The green leaves are made up of several parts called leaflets. In autumn the leaves turn yellow or purple. The flowers are usually small and grow in clusters. Each seed has a papery wing shaped like a dragonfly wing.
The wood is used to make baseball bats, hockey sticks, tennis rackets, oars, furniture, tool handles, and barrels.
White ash grows up to 40m tall. It produces splendid timber. The buds are dark brown, and the leaves have seven to nine large leaflets. The pale grey bark is smooth when young, but later develops a beautiful net-work of interwoven ridges and furrows.
Black ash is an important timber tree in western America. It has dark brown buds, the leaves have 7 to 11 leaflets and turn pale yellow in the autumn.
Manna or flowering ash is a beautiful tree. In late spring it is covered in masses of fragrant creamy white flowers. Manna sugar is obtained from the sap.
Mountain ash is one of the tallest tree species in the world. The trunk is straight, of excellent form and commonly two-thirds or more of the tree height, while the crown is open and relatively small.
In the old days, people made weapons from the ash tree: spears, clubs, bows and arrows.
Ash wood has no taste; therefore, various food capacities are made from it.
It is noteworthy that the British automobile company Morgan Motor Company used ash to make the carcasses of their car bodies. And the world’s leading manufacturers of guitars Fender and Gibson also preferred this wood.
Ash symbolizes the divine nature of mankind. Sometimes its energy evokes the ability to clairvoyance, allows us to know the future, but helps only those who are sincere in their desire for knowledge. Ash is a tree of rebirth and renewal.
