Our brain and body


Some people can through fire, swallow swords, eat glass, sleep on the nails. They seem to feel no pain. How do they do it? Some scientists believe that they are able to slow down their brain waves, so that they do not feel pain.
When we walk, or talk, or play music or football, our brain is controlling our body. But some people seem able to do this better than others.
People who practise yoga seem able to slow down their brain waves, and even their heart. After years of practice, some of them can stop themselves from feeling the cold, or from bleeding when cut with a knife.
The brain is the control center for the body. It receives and makes sense of signals sent from nerve cells in the body and sends information to the body’s muscles and organs. It also controls a person’s thoughts and feelings. Sometimes it is called the busiest communication center in the world. Your brain can’t work hard non-stop. You need have a healthy sleep to make your brain and your muscles work properly.

During sleep, some parts of your brain are less active than others. But the brain never stops working completely. Parts of the brain are active when you are dreaming. And part of the brain looks after certain body functions. These functions must go on all the time. Among such functions are the beating of the heart and breathing.
Sleep gives the nerve cells in your nervous system a chance to restore their energy.

Did you know that the left side of the brain controls the right side of the body, and the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body. The right brain is the more creative or emotional hemisphere and the left brain is the analytical and judgmental hemisphere.
Your brain needs two things to survive: fuel and activation. Fuel comes in the form of oxygen and glucose.
There are no pain receptors in the brain. Surgeons can perform complex operations on it without anesthesia, which allows not affect vital functions (motor, visual).
The brain has been recognized as the most complex device in the entire universe.
The brain consists of 75% water.
